In 1946 the Council of Ministers of the USSR adopted a decision on the establishment and development of specialized engineering offices, and testing grounds for the space exploration. S. P. Korolev was appointed as a director. Already in 1951 a rocket was launched from Kapustin Yar. There were dogs on its Board — animals took flight and returned safely to Earth. The world’s first artificial satellite of our plane was launched from Baikonur cosmodrome into orbit on 4 October, 1957. The era of practical exploration started.
On 12 April, 1961 the spacecraft “Vostok” with a man on Board was launched successfully from the Baikonur cosmodrome. The first flight into space was carried out by Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin!
